I can open the plist file with TextEdit and can see some of the URLs I need to retrieve but its a massive chaotic file and not sure I can get everything I need in a reasonable time. Tried to run a script developed by community member 6圆 to generate a Bookmark file from which I could reopen all my old tabs, but running the script fails to produce a functioning bookmark file. I have a copy of one of these recent versions of ist from Time Machine on my desktop, and using the advice in the thread 20, 2021, implying that the file hasn't been modified since then, although that is still fine for my needs. Interestingly, all of the Time Machine versions of ist file from the last few weeks all say last modified Sept. I have tried this a few times, even restarting computer before reopening Safari, and even trying to restore entire '~/Library/Safari/' folder to no avail. I have recent Time Machine backups and tried the frequently suggested strategy of restoring a recent version of ~/Library/Safari/ist from Time Machine, but when I close Safari and then do this and restart Safari, the 'Reopen All Windows From Last Session' command is greyed out and not available. Unfortunately I did not have the sense to 'Add Bookmarks For These Tabs', and after an unexpected shutdown of Safari yesterday, I inadvertently opened and closed Safari before using 'Reopen All Windows From Last Session'. Occasionally, when I would inadvertently close a window full of tabs or shut down Safari, I could utilize 'Recently Closed', 'Reopen Last Closed Tab', or 'Reopen All Windows From Last Session' commands to recover. Periodically, I would need to restart computer and tabs would all reopen. I had a rather large number of tabs in multiple windows open in Safari representing a lot of research effort. You can also just choose to disable it.I am running Big Sur 11.6 on a 2016 MacBook Pro. I can see, however, how it might be a privacy issue if you share the same computer and account with someone elseĪlso have never found any instabilities to it that I am aware of.Īnd as a general comment for all extensions, seeing that it has been asked here several times, to uninstall this or any extension, just go to Safari->Preferences->Extensions (which becomes a tab in Safari) and choose "uninstall". Very handy, particularly for single-user machines. If you haven't used that tab in the current session, it doesn't seem possible to access it again via Safari's history feature, BUT with Safari Retore, I can bring up the Safari Restore tab/window and go to a previous session that had said lost URL tab at the end of a session, and get it back. The most useful aspect, I find, is for when I accidentally close a tab, which I have kept over several sessions. Tthat extra tab or window with the Restore Session header is where one can choose to look at previous sessions (menu on LHS), and then choose to reopen any full session or portion of one that you need. But with a few minutes of diligent checking it out, it all became clear. At first I didn't really see the purpose of it, as Safari allows one to retain the tabs and URL's from previous sessions, and having an extra tab for it open upon starting up Safari confused me. I've been using this extension for a while and have come to really appreciate it.
